Sign of the times or publicity stunt? Portland opens first electric car quick-charge station

By just counting the number of politicians and Nissan executives you might think that the recent opening of  Portland's first electric car quick-charge station was a publicity stunt.

As you may know the Nissan Leaf isn't or sale yet, so who going to use the quick-charge station today?

Perhaps a few wealthy Portland Tesla owners is our guess…that is only if the station actually works with the Tesla.

The grand opening was billed as North America's first ever electric car quick-charge station.

The politician-studded event (in the parking garage of the World Trade Center building in downtown Portland, Oregon) was attended by the state's Governor Ted Kulongosk (he's the guy in the video attaching the big power cord to the Leaf).

In case you are wondering it takes the Leaf about 20 to 30 minutes to charge form zero to eighty percent using the quick-charger.

Just enough time to enjoy a cup of coffee in downtown Portland.

And here's a bonus for all of you would-be Leaf Owners who happen to be in downtown, Portland. The charge is completely free…you just have to pay the $3.00 to park.
