The 2015 Aston Martin Vanquish, available in coupe and Volante (convertible) variants, received a multitude of tweaks and upgrades for the new model year. Enhancements to styling and the massive 6.0-L V-12 engine stand paramount, while a new, rear-mounted ZF 8-speed automatic transmisson shuffles power to the rear wheels.
In this TFLcar “everything you ever wanted to know” video, Managing Editor Dan Buxbaum interviews John Caress, chief programme engineer for Aston Martin. There are, of course, lots of exhaust and revving sounds, too.
The 2015 Aston Martin Vanquish shares its AM29 engine and ZF 8-speed automatic transmission with the 2015 Aston Martin Rapide. Interestingly, in the Vanquish, power is rated at 569 HP while the Rapide “settles” with just 552 HP. Both vehicles possess a completely different character, but linearity comes by way of a huge wave of torque through most of the RPM range.
An extensive use of carbon-fiber materials keeps the 2015 Aston Martin Vanquish relatively light on its feet. Weighing in at just over 3,900 lbs, the coupe still feels more like a grand tourer than an all-out sports car, but this is the Vanquish’s intended purpose, no?
