An institution celebrates its 60th birthday — and Ford has a special plan to celebrate that milestone.
Among all the news dropping at this week’s New York Auto Show, Ford’s announcement isn’t the actual car, but an event. In fact, the Blue Oval is planning a special get-together for the 60th Anniversary Mustang, but it’s not happening in the same city where it debuted the original pony car way back in 1964.
Instead, Ford is headed to Charlotte Motor Speedway on April 17, and that’s where we’ll actually see the physical embodiment of the company’s 60 continuous years of Mustang production.
Attendees at Charlotte Motor Speedway will get to check out what Ford is officially calling the Mustang 60th Anniversary Appearance Package. The word “appearance” is key there, as the limited-run package will strictly add cosmetic bits to the standard car. We don’t have too many details yet, though we can see hints at special badging for the GT model. It’s possible the package will be available for the EcoBoost four-cylinder model as well.
Those interested in actually joining Ford at Charlotte Motor Speedway to check out the 60th Anniversary package can sign up here. Ford specifies customers, clubs and dealers are able to register. The automaker will also livestream the event starting at 5 PM EDT on April 17.
