Right now, Genesis’ entire lineup consists of three luxury sedans. From the smallest G70, the range moves up to the midsize G80 and the full-size G90. Coincidentally, TFLcar reader Jeff sent in a few photos showing the updated G90 under camouflage in Pittsburgh. That’s actually been revealed already, but that’s not what we’re interested in. No, instead we’re interested in what’s behind the sedan: the all-new GV80.
In this crossover-crazed world, it makes total sense for Genesis to sell one. That’s exactly what Hyundai’s luxury marque plans to do, along with other crossovers down the line. The company is readying this as the first strike, however, so we should see this sometime within the next year. It may show up at this year’s LA Auto Show, though Genesis hasn’t officially announced a reveal just yet.
Like the updated G90 sedan, the GV80 can be seen with its slim LED taillights under that camouflage. It’s also sporting some five-spoke wheels, and its exhaust outlets look virtually identical to the G90.
There’s not much else we know with certainty at this point. However, it’s safe to assume the GV80 will share its powertrain with the similarly named G80 sedan. That means it should have a 3.8-liter V6 under the hood, or a twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6. The former puts out 311 horsepower and 293 lb-ft of torque, while the latter manages 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque. The G80 also currently houses a 5.0-liter V8, though it’s a coin-toss whether Genesis will carry it over to the GV80 at this point.
