The 2001 Acura Integra Type-R is becoming a red-hot icon of the Japanese sports-car world. So much so that a decent example can now fetch a pretty penny on the second-hand market. Though, it is rare to find one like this in, dare I say it, perfect condition. Well, a Canadian man managed to seal one away in a barn for 18 years and is now asking nearly $30,000 (US) for it on eBay.
Why is the Type-R so awesome?
There is a hierarchy of things that can make a car collectible and expensive. The Type-R ticks a lot of those boxes. Acura built the Integra Type-R in limited production, just 10,000 units here in the US. It is a coupe. Plus this one has the vaunted 195 horsepower 1.8-liter V-TEC engine under the hood. Throw in the limited slip differential, and a good old fashioned 5-speed manual transmission and you have yourself a recipe for skyrocketing value.
Any time you see the words “Type-R” on a Honda (or in this case Acura) product, that tells you this is not the ordinary road going model. Type-Rs, like the recently released Honda Civic Type-R, perform far beyond their economy car based siblings.
But is it $30,0000 awesome?
We live in a world where immaculate examples can fetch enormous price tags. Take, for example, the Mk5 Supra that recently sold for over $120,000. The original owner of this car literally built it into a sealed wall inside his barn, “because he didn’t want any person to see or play” with it. So, here you have a rare, sought-after car in perfect condition after 18 years of being treated like a museum piece. If you think about it, the huge price tag might be a fair ask.
You decide
