Ford’s venerable supercar, the GT, is again in the headlines. Last week it was Ford’s return to GT racing in 2016 using a racing version of the GT with the dream of repeating history at 24 Hours of Le Mans with a win on its 50th anniversary. At the E3 gaming conference in Los Angeles on Monday, a Ford GT was lowered from the rafters while Microsoft showed off their Forza Motorsport 6 gameplay trailer to the audience.
While only a few select drivers will have the opportunity to drive the new Ford GT around the world’s best race tracks, Xbox One owners will be able to drive the car in 26 locations around the world when Forza 6 is released on September 15.
At the Detroit Auto Show in January, Ford dominated the headlines with their surprise reveal of the new GT. Check out our interview with Director of Global Ford Performance, Dave Pericak, to learn more about Ford’s supercar beyond just the power specs.
Earlier this year, Microsoft and Turn 10 announced they were partnering with Ford to make the Ford GT the cover car for Forza 6 and also that they are bringing Ford’s line of performance vehicles (Ford GT, Shelby GT350 Mustang, and the F-150 Raptor) to the game. Now Microsoft has confirmed that Forza 6 will be released exclusively for the Xbox One on September 15, 2015.
Here is the gameplay trailer that debuted during the E3 press conference:
Ford announced the formation of the Performance Group last December and is using it as a vehicle for showcasing their technology in the racing arena and applying it to their performance line of cars and trucks. The innovations and technology developed in Ford’s racing programs will eventually trickle down to all Ford products, improving the value and efficiency of the entire lineup. Having the new Ford GT and other high performance vehicles–like the Shelby GT350 Mustang and F-150 Raptor available in Forza 6–is one way of showing Ford’s passion for racing.
