How far can turbocharging go? The folks at MRT collaborated with other performance specialists to create this 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost makes over 400 horsepower from a 2.3L four cylinder engine. There are some reports that say the engine makes over 400 horsepower and others that say – over 500 horsepower. We could not reach the company to verify at this time. No matter the number, this Mustang explores the possibilities of small turbo-charged engines of the future.
The stock EcoBoost makes a healthy 310 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque in a lighter weight package. The important part of any high-strung turbo engine is not the maximum output, but the smoothness of the power delivery and drivability. It very interesting to see how the 500+ hp small-displacement motors behave in the real world.
Check out Part 2 of the 2015 Ford Mustang lineup from SEMA 2014. This includes the “King Cobra” Mustang that is filled to the fangs with performance and appearance parts for a mean-looking 600+ horsepower V8 drag racer. Ford says that the King Cobra is capable of 10.97 second quarter mile runs.
