It’s fair to say that we here at TFLcar are beginning to run out of adjectives for describing the wonder that is the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. It’s been just over a week since Chrysler released the news that this monster muscle car would come with a mind-blowing 707 horsepower but now we’ve got more numbers and they’re just as impressive.
This time, the numbers come from how fast the Challenger can burn up the quarter mile. The Challenger Hellcat with Pirelli P Zero tires did it in just 11.2 seconds with a trap speed of 125 mph. If that number isn’t enough to make your eyes bug out of your head, then swap those tires for drag radials and the Dodge Challenger Hellcat does the quarter mile in just 10.8 seconds with a trap speed of 126 mph.
We’ll wait here while you put your eyeballs back in their sockets.
This makes the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat the fastest, most powerful muscle car that has ever hit the streets. The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and Chevy Camaro Z28 are both sitting back there eating the Challenger’s dust. The 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V-8, the first supercharged Hemi ever from Dodge, gets a lot of the credit.
Just for a little perspective about how far the American muscle car has come over the years, let’s look at the numbers for the original Dodge Challenger that was introduced back in 1970. That car packed 425 hp and did the quarter mile in 13.2 seconds with a trap speed of 108 mph. You’ve come a long way, Challenger.
