Chauffeurs, luxo-motor heads and diesel power fans in the United States are excited about the latest news Audi of America has announced today about their flagship diesel model. The latest EPA fuel economy estimates and official pricing has been set, and the numbers are quite impressive.
The official price for the 2014 Audi A8 L TDI for the U.S. market is $82,500. That’s an impressive [expensive] number. However, this price is around $10,000 lower than the 2013 Mercedes-Benz S350 BlueTEC diesel.
Equally impressive — but more of a cost-savings number — is the longer wheelbase model’s EPA estimated 24-city, 36-highway, and 28-combined miles per gallon. This rating trumps the 21-city, 31-highway rating from the S350 BlueTEC.
Some other numbers that may raise a brow or two have to do with the engine. Being a diesel, the only option in the U.S. is for a 3-liter, 6-cylinder power plant, which delivers 240-horsepower. Not impressed by that number? What about this number: 406. That’s how much torque the engine delivers to all four wheels.
With the impressive torque power delivery, Audi claims a 0-60 MPH time in 6.4-seconds.
As far as options go, Audi has reworked the order sheet. The most noticeable change is to the Premium Package. Ticking the box on this option now includes Audi side assist and pre-sense rear, 22-way power seats, front seat ventilation with massage and full LED headlights.
No official on sale date has been announced by Audi of America, other than you should expect to see the shiny oil burners show up on dealer lots early this Spring.
