Today Mazda revealed the redesigned 2014 Mazda6 Diesel sedan. What a great job they did. Gone is the silly front grill “smile” of older Mazdas. The shape of the new car conveys fun, athleticism, and elegance.
And there is a surprise that hides under the hood. It’s the 2.2 liter 4 cylinder turbo Clean Diesel motor. This power plant is already in use in Europe under the hood of the CX-5 crossover. And the specs on this beast are impressive: 173 horsepower and 310 ft-lbs of torque! This is significantly higher output then the Volkswagen’s popular Passat 2.0 liter TDI. EPA fuel efficiency rating is not yet available, but expect it to be comparable to the Passat.
By the way, the rumor is that the Clean Diesel CX-5 is also coming to American shores.
