Video review: The 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan takes on the German Alps and Autobahn

Last month Volkswagen sold about 3100 Tiguans in the United States. That’s a growing number of small crossovers for a car company that want to be the biggest in the world.

For 2012 Volkswagen has refreshed the Tiguan giving it more of a current VW profile to match the new Passat (click HERE to watch our Passat first drive review) as well as increasing the car’s MPG by 15 percent.

VW says that it was able to get better MPG numbers from the Tiguan’s current (18 city/26 hwy mpg) by recalibrating the transmission and switching to new lower resistance tires among other changes.

We were recently invited to Germany to drive the new 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan on both the autobahn and the winding mountain roads of both Germany and Austria.

We came away impressed with the new Tiguan’s new sleeker looks and tight handing…even though we only drove the European versions of the new 2012 car. We even learned how this very German small crossover that competes with cars like the Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V got its name.

So check out the first drive video review below of the 2012 VW Tiguan as we drive the car through some of the most beautiful Alpine country in the world.
