And the most dependable new car brand according to J.D. Power and Associates is…

Lincoln

Ford’s Lincoln luxury car brand is the most reliable automaker in the land according to the most recent J.D. Power and Associates long-term dependability study.

J.D. Power and Associates scored the car brands based on a survey of owners of three-year-old cars, and asks the owners how many problems they’ve had. The results are tabulated and presented in terms of the number of problems per 100 cars.

So without further words the best two brands in the land are:

Lincoln with an average score of 101

Lexus with an average score of 109

The next three brands after Lexus are Jaguar, Porsche and Toyota.

And just in case you are curious the average score was 151 problems per 100 vehicles in the J.D. Power and Associates rankings.

Automakers, as a whole, have made significant improvements in reducing traditional problems,” said David Sargent, vice president of global vehicle research at J.D. Power and Associates. “However, as manufacturers add new features and technologies to satisfy customer demand and new legislation, they face the potential for introducing new problems.”

Here’s a surprise: the most dependable car in the survey was a Porsche 911.

BTW: You can see see all of the winners and losers by model in each segment HERE.

The survey questioned 43,700 owners of 2008 model year cars was conducted at the end of last last year.
