Manufacturers go through great lengths to hide the identity of prototypes they send out to the real world for testing. But TFLcar viewer Kraig Schlueter and his family spotted this car near Navy Pier in Chicago, which the TFL staff have identified as the 2016 Honda Civic sedan.
The tenth-generation Civic will be released in the fall and is a global platform. It is also the first global Honda vehicle to be led by Honda’s North American research and development team.
The new Civic will be available in sedan, coupe and hatchback form, the latter being a return of the Civic hatchback to the United States market. Honda will also offer Si and Type R versions of the Civic, marking the first time that the high-performance Type R will be available in the U.S.
The 2016 Civic will also use turbocharged engines for the first time in the U.S., with new engines manufactured in Anna, Ohio. A six-speed manual transmission will be available, along with an improved continuously variable transmission.
The new Civic is lower, wider and longer than the current model and is styled to be more aggressive than previous Civic.
