The 2016 Nissan Maxima is coming in June, and TFLcar was at the Denver Auto Show to find out more about it and to answer some questions submitted by readers and viewers.
The new Maxima will be available in five grades, from the $32,410 S model to the top-of-the-line $39,860 Platinum model.
The base S comes standard with a navigation system with eight-inch screen and remote start.
The next level, SV, adds heated leather seats and a sonar system, and the SL model adds a panoramic sunroof and all of Nissan’s available safety technology, including intelligent cruise control and lane departure warnings.
For enthusiasts, the $37,670 SR model adds stiffer suspension with a front strut to dampen chassis vibration and intelligent dynamics control to level out the ride.
The Platinum model adds a power tilt and telescoping steering wheel, driver attention alert, and quilted leather on the seats.
All models come with one engine, the new 3.5-liter V6 that makes 300 horsepower. The only transmission choice is Nissan’s Xtronic CVT putting power through the front wheels.
Vishnu Jayamohan, product manager for Nissan Maxima, said that the new Maxima was taken to Buttonwillow Raceway in California, where it posted a faster lap time than a BMW 3-series. Nissan will reveal the details of this test very soon.
Jayamohan also said that there are no plans to add an all-wheel-drive system to the Maxima, but a NISMO version is under consideration.
As for other Nissan models, Jayamohan couldn’t comment on many upcoming models, but said that people should “stay tuned and be hopeful” for a NISMO version of the Sentra.
