We’re getting closer to Halloween and the end of TFLcar’s Top 10 Spooky Halloween Car Flicks (numbers 4 and 3). The next two on TFLcar’s Top 10 Halloween-ish Car Flicks assaulted our senses in the middle of the 1980s. This was back in the day when prosthetics and stage blood was the norm – the way it was suppose to be be.
Before the dark times.
Before CGI.

4. Maximum Overdrive
This 1986 horror(ish) movie is based on a Stephen King story. Better still, Mr. King went and directed it too! That’s right, Stephen King directed this picture!
Look, it doesn’t get more Halloween-ish than Stephen King!
Then again… alien controlled, homicidal machines hunting humans; jeez, not the best way to make a directorial debut. At least he didn’t cast himself in Emilio Estevez’s role. He did put together a kickass soundtrack (AC/DC) and there were a few fun moments. Many didn’t like this one, but your mileage may vary.
I liked it because of Stephen King. If you want to be cool, you’ll like it too.
3. The Wraith
This 1986 revenge-with-future-soul-sucking-car movie starred Roman… I mean Charlie Sheen (same hairstyle) and, coincidentally, came out at about the same time as his brother’s flick Maximum Overdrive.
It must be a conspiracy!
The Wraith is a full-on Dodge commercial more than it is an actual horror film. The real star of the movie was the Wraith’s car, a copy of the 1984 Dodge M4S prototype (sorry Charlie Sheen). With the exception of a Corvette driven by the main bad-guy, almost every car was built by Dodge. All in all, it did provide some spooky-ish moments (to some) and encompassed a decent back-from-the-dead-revenge-with-future-soul-sucking-car film.
This is a VERY 80s film.
Stay tuned for number’s two and ONE coming soon on TFLcar’s Top 10 Halloween-ish Car Flicks!
You see? I TOLD you – “Maximum Overdrive” in now on the list!
