Volkswagen is not keen on bringing too many of their goods to the United States, which sucks. Take this awesome Volkswagen Polo R WRC; it’s powered by the same 2.0-liter, turbocharged engine that powers the current European VW GTI. A six-speed manual transmission is the only available transmission and an electronic differential lock keeps torque-steer from ripping the hands of the driver from their wrists.

The Volkswagen Polo R WRC has a unique exterior scheme, 18-inch Cagliari wheels, unique graphics, bi-xenon headlights and a sports-tuned suspension.

The interior is unique with sport seats (with WRC logos embroidered), a radio with navigation, cruise control, light and rain sensor along with the winter package and other additions makes the Volkswagen Polo R WRC as value-packed as many special-edit Golf GTIs. Cool – right?

Even the regular Polo would be a welcome addition to the USA, but that’s not about to anytime soon.

There will be a limited run of 2,500 Volkswagen Polo R WRC’s bult in order to keep within the FIA requirements for homogenization. Unlike the real WRC version of the VW Polo which has all-wheel drive and 295 hp, the Volkswagen Polo R WRC is front-drive only. Still, that much power, 217 hp, in a little car like the Polo, it’s damn fast. The Volkswagen Polo R WRC goes from 0 to 62 mph in 6.4 seconds and its top speed is 151 mph. Both mighty impressive.

The Germans can buy the Volkswagen Polo R WRC for €33,900 in September of 2013. For a comparison, the very base no-frills Polo (59 hp with no options) costs about €13,000. That’s a big price differential, but you have to remember: this is a limited run on a vehicle that should be a collector’s item in the near future. All of the Volkswagen Polo R WRCs will have the same exterior and interior.

I guess we have to admire from afar just like the unbridled lust I harbor for the unavailable VW Scirocco. Sometimes, it sucks to be from North America. Now, I have to convince Roman to send me to Wolfsburg, Germany.

Speaking of fun German cars, check out Roman and I as we play with this 2013 SL63 AMG Roadster!

Honestly? I would rather play with the Polo R WRC.

No – not really.
