FCA faces more potential fines for emissions violations.
The Environmental Protection Agency said Wednesday Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV will recall 862,520 vehicles that do not meet U.S. emissions regulations. Authorities prompted the recall after conducting in-use emissions investigations and through FCA’s own testing as required by EPA regulations.
According to an Automotive News report, the agency said owners can continue to drive their cars for now. They will ultimately “receive notification from FCA when parts are available for them to bring their vehicle in to be repaired.”
The recall affects the following vehicles:
- 2011 – 2016 Dodge Journey
- 2011 – 2014 Chrysler 200
- 2011 – 2014 Dodge Avenger
- 2011 – 2012 Dodge Caliber
“Due to the large number of vehicles involved and the need to supply replacement components — specifically to the vehicle’s catalytic converter — this recall will be implemented in phases during the 2019 calendar year, beginning with the oldest vehicles first,” the EPA stated.
The Dodge Journey is the only vehicle involved in the recall that is still in production. Nonetheless, at a time where FCA faces large fines for other emissions violations, this is another poor mark. “EPA welcomes the action by Fiat Chrysler to voluntarily recall its vehicles that do not meet U.S. emissions standards,” said EPA administrator Andrew Wheeler.
