The All-Electric 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S Will Debut May 30, But Here’s An Early Look

Jeep’s teaser video naturally pitches the Wagoneer S against Tesla…but with a twist.

So far, we’ve only seen some official photos of the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S. This week, though, the company published a teaser video actually showing its first all-electric SUV in North America on the move — at Willow Springs Raceway in Rosamond, California, no less. You’d expect the car to show its all-out grunt on the track, and Jeep does line the Wagoneer S up against the Tesla Model Y Performance.

The pitch for the actual teaser video below brings a different message. Sure, the two rollout side-by-side (with each briefly pulling ahead of the other), but it’s not really about having a drag race. If you want that, you’ll have to keep an eye out on the TFLcar and TFLEV channels for when we actually get our hands on the electric Wagoneer here in Colorado.

Instead, the fight is a metaphorical one. While the company started competing against America’s best-selling EV brand, the real yardstick…is Jeep itself. That’s the magic of marketing for you, hence why the teaser is called “Surpass Yourself.” Once the “drag race” concludes, the Model Y exits the track, and we at least get a little taste of what people would normally associate with Jeep rather than raw performance, as it heads “off-road”. (The Wagoneer S does have a Sand drive mode, for what it’s worth.)

And indeed, the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S will be the quickest model to date, at least according to the automaker’s own estimates. The performance metric they really want you to focus on is the 707-horsepower Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, which posts a 0-60 acceleration run in 3.5 seconds. The Wagoneer S, for its part, will do it in 3.4 seconds, thanks to its dual-motor setup with 600 horsepower and 617 lb-ft of torque on tap. Jeep also promises their midsize electric SUV will run about 300 miles on a charge.

The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S is expected to cost anywhere between $80,000 and $100,000 when it does formally launch, though, so that level of performance will cost you about the same as the old Trackhawk did. It will also run about twice the price of the Model Y Performance, while the quad-motor Rivian R1S with 835 horsepower and 908 lb-ft of torque will set you back $92,000.

We’ll know much more about the Wagoneer S and actually get a hands-on look on May 30, so stay tuned!
