2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Official MPG Figures Are In: Here’s What You Can Expect

The 23 mpg combined figure is a bit of a double-edged sword

The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser is about to go on sale, and it’s far more efficient than the 200 Series’ V8.

Now that we’re right on the cusp of the new 250 Series Land Cruiser’s launch, the last few important numbers are falling into place. We know how much it costs, and now we also know what kind of fuel economy we can expect. In short, it’s not quite the 27 mpg Toyota originally estimated, but official EPA numbers peg this new model at 23 mpg combined.

As far as the two other economy numbers are concerned, the new Land Cruiser should manage 22 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. With these ratings making the rounds, most folks are expressing the same interpretion: It’s lower than what Toyota first said, but it’s massively better than the old gas-swilling 200 Series.

Against the old model’s 5.7-liter V8, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser still manages a 64% mpg improvement. The 200 Series managed just 14 mpg combined and up to 17 mpg on the highway — if you’re careful. The new, 2.4-liter “i-Force Max” hybrid setup manages 9 mpg better, while still delivering 326 horsepower and 426 lb-ft of torque. So, the 250 Series brings less horsepower to the party, but out-torques the old 200 Series by a decent margin.

These EPA figures are constant across the entire 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser range, since they all use that hybrid setup and come standard with four-wheel drive. It’s also worth noting the non-hybrid Lexus GX 550, which uses the larger 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 from the Toyota Tundra and Sequoia manages just 17 mpg combined, while still riding on the same GA-F platform as the Land Cruiser (and Toyota’s other trucks, for that matter).

We’ll definitely test out the mpg claims when we’re able to do a proper loop (see our “Denver 100” videos where we see what new vehicles can do in a real-world highway test). Nevertheless, the on-paper numbers do paint a rosier picture when it comes to your fuel bills, should you decide to pick up a new Land Cruiser.
