When you normally see one of Jaguar’s concepts, it’s on the motor show floor — but not this one. Happily, though, that means you can drive this Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo Coupé for a lot less than it would theoretically cost in the real world, for little more than the cost of a Playstation 4 and Gran Turismo Sport. Already have both? Good for you! Then you’ll be able to download the racing EV concept late next month.
While we are talking about a virtual world here, the Vision Gran Turismo isn’t without its real-life inspiration. It’s the “ultimate expression of Jaguar DNA”, the company says, taking some design cues from the iconic C-Type and D-Type race cars, as well as the I-Type 4 and eTrophy race cars. Regarding the latter two racers, this virtual Jaguar packs three electric motors producing over 1,000 horsepower and 885 lb-ft of torque.
That sort of power and its all-wheel-drive setup will supposedly launch the Vision Gran Turismo to 60 mph in under two seconds. Too bad you can’t actually feel the G-forces.
Still, even for a virtual car, Jaguar paid attention to detail, creating a concept which looks stunning and would have some serious grunt, if it were actually brought to life. From the deployable aero wing to the lines and swooping design, hopefully this is how the brand’s future cars will look. “The architecture is visually lightweight, simple, and dramatic; featuring advanced and experimental materials and finishes,” said Jaguar interior designer Chris Shaw.
Before the Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo Coupé concept makes its way to GT Sport players next month, it’s part of Sony’s Gran Turismo World Tour event at the Tokyo Motor Show this weekend. Check out more about how Jaguar created its virtual racer above.
