These are the best crossovers and SUVs when you need to roll over the snow.
As of right now, the U.S. is in the midst of another winter storm – this time Winter Storm Harper. We’re right in the dead of the season at this point, so it’s time to ask that all-important question once again. What’s the best crossover or SUV when you need the most ground clearance?
Back near the end of 2017, we published a comprehensive list of the cars and SUVs with the highest ground clearance currently on sale. Since then, some new players have joined the game, while others have departed. Here in Colorado, we’ve seen feet upon feet of freshly fallen snow gathering near the peaks of the Rocky Mountains. If you’re in a mountain state or out on the plains where you’re likely to be dumped on in a winter storm, you know the importance of good ground clearance. Yes, winter tires and all-wheel drive help immensely. Just having the ability to roll right over the deep snow is always helpful, as well.
As a disclaimer: Several crossovers and SUVs around the bottom of the list (8.5 inches of ground clearance) may not be included in this list. Feel free to leave a comment if you notice something we missed!
