The redesigned 2019 Altima introduces all-wheel drive and the brand’s first Variable Compression engine.
Nissan invested heavily into redesigning the Altima for its sixth generation, and the new model is now getting ready to head out to dealerships. Roman had the chance to drive the new Altima in sunny California recently. However, one thing we weren’t able to mention in our review is pricing. Now, Nissan has fully announced pricing for the 2019 Altima. The new model starts from $24,645 – a bit more expensive than before – and runs up to $36,645 for the special EDITION ONE.
In the 2019 Altima, you get two new engine options. The 3.5-liter V6 is gone, and in its place there’s the much-hyped 2.0-liter turbocharged Variable Compression engine. That option nets 248 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. In certain trim levels – S, SV and SL – your only option is a revamped version of Nissan’s 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated inline-four. The 2.5-liter manages 188 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. Either engine comes mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
Depending on which trim level you choose, you may be paying a premium over the equivalent 2018 Altima. The VC-Turbo models are the most expensive of the bunch, but they are only available in front-wheel drive. If you want all-wheel drive, you have to go with the 2.5-liter engine. All-wheel drive carries a $1,360 premium over front-wheel drive models.

Differences from 2018 models
Nissan includes an 8.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, as well as Nissan Safety Shield 360, a suite of driver assist and safety systems. The 2019 Altima gets a price hike over the 2018 model as a result, and the premium increases as you move up through the trim levels.
The S model comes in $490 more expensive than the outgoing version. The SR trim moves the goal posts further, and is $780 more. Prices for the front-wheel drive, 2.5-liter 2019 Altima tops out at $32,675 for the fully-loaded Platinum model. The Platinum adds ProPilot Assist, a 360-degree camera system, a 9-speaker Bose stereo and premium leather seats.
While the old 3.5-liter SL costs $34,525, the new 2.0-liter VC-Turbo equipped SR starts off nearly $3,600 cheaper. The SR comes in at $30,045 and rises to $34,025 for the Platinum model. For a limited time, buyers can also get the Edition ONE for $36,645. The Edition ONE adds special badging, 19-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, ground lighting, illuminated kick plates and Nissan concierge services for 3 years.
