Design elements on the 2019 BMW Z4 largely stay true to earlier concepts.
BMW has revealed the all-new 2019 BMW Z4. Under the sunny California skies, the company is finally showing us what their reborn roadster is all about. More specifically, the company unveiled the new Z4 M40i First Edition. Its design has largely stayed true to earlier concepts, like the one shown below. BMW made some styling changes for the finished product, but they also released photographs and some more specific information on the new model.
We expected the BMW – like its co-developed cousin, the Toyota Supra – to pack a 3.0-liter inline-six engine. And it still does – in fact, BMW claims that powerplant produces enough power and torque to get it from 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. Mind you, while they did say it produces “enough” power, the company didn’t specify horsepower and torque numbers for the 2019 BMW Z4 M40i at the time of its initial release. Update: The Z4 M40i produces 382 horserpower and 369 lb-ft of torque.
A lower center of gravity, 50:50 weight ratio, BMW M tuned sports suspension with electronically controlled dampers, M Sport braking system and an electronically controlled M Sport rear differential takes care of business in the handling department.
On the exterior, BMW fitted the Z4 M40i with Frozen Orange Metallic paint – although it looks more like a red to us. That paintwork contrasts against a black grille and trim pieces, as well as 19-inch black alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, you get traditional BMW fare. That means Adaptive LED headlights, a Head-up Display (new for the Z4), a Harman Kardon sound system and a digital instrument cluster.
More details will emerge on the 2019 BMW Z4 M40i and its stablemates on September 18, 2018. The new Z4 will go on sale next Spring with the M40i pictured above hitting dealers in the second quarter of 2019. Stay tuned to TFLcar.com for more updates!
