The final episode of Top Gear with Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will finally be broadcast in America.
The episode, officially Top Gear Series 22 Episode 8: The Big Send Off Special, is on the BBC America schedule for 9 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday, July 13. The BBC America Top Gear page hasn’t been updated with any information on the special.
The special aired on BBC Two in the United Kingdom on June 28. The 75-minute special includes two pre-recorded challenges that were intended to be shown during the final three episodes of the season before Clarkson’s infamous fracas got him suspended from the show and subsequently not renewed for another series.
The first part of the special is a classic car challenge, where each presenter buys a classic car and lives the life of a classic car enthusiast. The second part is an SUV challenge where each presenter buys a cheap SUV and puts each one through a series of tests.
For the special, Hammond and May filmed the studio sequences without the usual standing-room-only audience and replaced the absent Clarkson with a large elephant. Clarkson recorded the voice-overs after his suspension was over as part of his previous Top Gear contract.
When the BBC didn’t renew Clarkson’s contract, both Hammond and May also declined new contracts to appear on Top Gear. The trio are rumored to be starting another car show, with Netflix and UK broadcaster ITV mentioned as the most likely suitors.
The BBC will continue Top Gear with new host Chris Evans. The other presenter slots haven’t been filled.
