The Mazda CX-5 and the Mazda6 don’t really compete in the same class since one is a crossover and the other is sedan, but they do share the same powertrain–Mazda’s SKYACTIV 2.5-liter engine and 6-speed automatic transmission. In this TFL mega mashup review Emme and Nathan compare both cars at TFL Car’s test track and on the road in Colorado. Tune it see which car (or crossover) prevails.
The Mazda CX-5 is a joy to drive. Its sporty handling, sharp steering and strong brakes earn high marks. Inside, the crossover has attractive and practical cabin. Factor in top safety scores and impressive fuel economy, and the CX-5 adds up to a desirable compact crossover SUV worth every penny. Tough competition comes from the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape, and GMC Terrain.
The Mazda6 competes in a segment that is heavily contested with big hitters such as the Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Ford Fusion, Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Camry. Sure, those cars may have available engines that are more powerful, but the Mazda6 has its own set of desirable qualities. It is fun to drive, handles amazingly well, is nimble in the turns, and works great as a daily driver.
