The fatal accident of motorcycle racer, Carlton Sorensen, cast a somber shadow on an otherwise successful start to the 2015 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) week. The incident happened during the morning of practice and qualifying on June 25th. It happened at the upper section of the track between Devil’s Playground parking lot and the summit. The rest of the day’s qualifying and practice sessions were canceled.
Carl was competing in the Pikes Peak Middleweight sport bike class under the number 217. The rider of Centennial, Colorado was fielding a 2008 Ducati 848.
The race is still scheduled to run on Sunday – June 28th, 2015.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Sorensen family and friends.
The official statement from the Sorensen family and the PPIHC Board of directors said:
“He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend with a tremendous sense of humor and a passion for racing.
He left our lives while doing something that he loved, and it is the only thing that has the ability to deal with the reality of life, the acceptance of the competitors of the dangers in the race, and the heart and soul of a great man.”
