The engines are getting smaller, but turbocharging is making them ever more powerful. The fully redesigned 2015 Ford Edge is the next vehicle to utilize displacement downsizing and turbocharging. Don’t worry too much, a traditional and naturally aspirated 3.5L V6 is still available as well.

The lineup starts with the new 2.0L twin-scroll turbo four-cylinder EcoBoost engine that produces 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque @ 3,000 rpm. The EcoBoost power ratings are quoted when using 93-octane fuel. However, 91-octane is the highest available in Colorado and several other states. It uses a single turbocharger with clever exhaust pulse separation or isolation to provide better response, power, and efficiency. This is the standard engine and can be configured in FWD and AWD configurations. It’s can handle up to 3,500 lbs of towing.

The naturally aspirated 3.5L V6 engine basically carries over and produces 280 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque @ 4,000 rpm. It’s a proven design that’s been around for some time, and it will continue in the 2015 model.

The top of the line is the 2.7L twin turbocharged V6 EcoBoost that kicks out 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque @ 2,750 rpm in the Edge Sport. It can also be configured in FWD and AWD. This is the second application of the engine. It first appeared in the 2015 Ford F-150, but in the Edge Sport this motor is mounted transversely and make a little less power than the pickup truck.
