You may be thinking how can a video about a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT be a throwback? Well, Roman and Nathan filed this video from Austin, TX more than a year ago. Plus, it’s just super fun to watch this storm trooper looking SUV and listen to the big 6.4L HEMI V8 accelerate. The SRT Jeep is one quick hauler. It’s not meant for off-roading. It feels much more at home on a Formula 1 race track, like Circuit of the Americas.
This beast puts down 470 hp @ 6,000 rpm and 465 lb-ft of torque @ 4,300 rpm from the naturally aspirated HEMI. It sends to the pavement via an 8-speed automatic transmission and has one of the simplest launch control systems out there. By the way, this Jeep is not just all engine. It also has very capable suspension and enormous brakes that can haul it down from 60 to a dead stop in 113 feet. Engineers spent a lot of time tuning the suspension, so it’s not too harsh while at the same time has minimal lean. They succeeded as this SRT is capable of near 1.0g lateral acceleration wearing the Pirelli P-Zero tires.
Watch Nathan exercise this big bad Jeep through several 0-60 mph runs with Launch Control. Can he match the manufacturer claim of under 5.0 second sprint to 60 mph?
