Ford calls the new turbocharged 1.0L in the 2014 Ford Fiesta a “tiny but mighty” engine.

So that does that mean that the 2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0L is a tiny but mighty pocket rocket?

The answer is no.

After spending an afternoon behind the wheel of the newest and most European of all Ford Fiesta, the verdict is if you want the pocket rocket…go for the Ford Fiesta ST.

However words like “perky” and “lively” certainly come to mind when driving the 2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0L. Perhaps the main reason for this conclusion is the fact that at the just under $17,000 USD the 2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0L is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission. This certainly adds to the driving fun for small car enthusiast as well as a 45 MPG EPA score on the highway.

The rest of the car is standard Ford Fiesta. Sure there’s a slightly revised new nose and the 2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0L is available in both a sedan and hatchback. If you want the complete European experience go for the “Gotta Have It Green” color of our tester. And yes, Ford calls the bright paint, “Gotta Have It Green”

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the new car is the tiny turbo that powers the 3 cylinder 1.0L engine to almost 150lb-ft of torque. The turbo is about the size of a quarter. The tiny size means it produces almost no turbo lag. However being so diminutive  it also seems to struggle a bit with the weight of the not so “tiny” 2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0L.

It’s not slow….but you can feel the little engine huffing and puffing to put a small smile on your face when you mash the pedal to the medal.
