The 2014 Dodge Charger Pursuit AWD has posted the fastest lap time in testing conducted by the Michigan State Police making it the police vehicle you’re least likely to outrun. Not that we recommend trying to outrun law enforcement of any kind, unless you’re playing Grand Theft Auto V in which case, go for it.

The Police Vehicle Evaluation was held at the Grattan Raceway in Belding, Michigan where the 2014 Dodge Charger Pursuit AWD clocked a lap time of 1:33.85 to make it the fastest all-wheel-driver cruiser available. It also snagged the fastest average lap time of 1:34.75 although it didn’t quite manage being the quickest pursuit vehicle of all-time. That win goes to the 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit V-8 rear-wheel-drive which clocked in at 1:33.70.

The annual testing evaluates not just the speed of police vehicles, but a host of other areas that contribute to making an exceptional police vehicle. Things like acceleration, braking, handling, fuel economy, and ergonomics were also evaluated. So far, they haven’t revealed the results of those additional tests.

The 2014 Dodge Charger Pursuit lineup includes multiple refinements based on feedback from law enforcement with a goal of creating the best vehicle possible for their needs. The 370 horsepower V-8 includes a segment-exclusive active transfer case and front-axle-disconnect for seamless transitions between RWD and AWD without any action from the driver.

It boasts best-in-class stopping power going from 60-0 MPH in 127 feet with a new high performance braking system. They’ve also changed the rear fascia and exhaust tips to make them better suited to pursuit over uneven ground and particularly median strips.

There’s also a high level of safety provided for members of law enforcement including standard advanced multi-stage driver and front-passenger air bags, seat-mounted side-thorax air bags, supplemental side-curtain air bags for front and rear outboard passengers and driver’s knee bag. It’s even earned a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS.

The 2014 Dodge Charger Pursuit will be available to law enforcement in the Spring of next year.
