A new report confirms Acura’s performance-oriented MDX will be paused after this year.
First it was the TLX Type S, and now Acura recently divulged that the three-row MDX Type S will soon depart from showrooms as well. The news first came from an Automotive News report, with the automaker following up that, indeed, its flagship turbocharged SUV will go on ice after the 2026 model year.
Now, to be clear, the rest of the Acura MDX lineup isn’t going anywhere. Acura is just dropping the 3.0-liter V6 Type S from the lineup, but not because it was a slow seller. Instead, the company is navigating uncertainty with the EPA’s emissions regulations — the latest version of which are set to take effect as we head into 2027. Acura only rolled the J30AC engine for the TLX Type S and MDX Type S, so with their departure, that engine will also no longer be available anywhere else.
Acura told media outlets that some of the “features and styling” from the Type S would make their way down to the other models in the lineup. Likely, that applies to the sportier A-Spec, at least, though we should know more when Acura rolls out the full range of changes for the 2027 MDX. For now, at least we know with certainty the Type S will no longer be on the menu.
If you’re in the market for a new MDX Type S, here’s your formal warning. There are still new examples available for sale right now. Otherwise, you’ll need to look into the standard 3.5-liter V6-powered versions moving forward, until the MDX gets a generational overhaul. The current generation has been around since 2022 (as has the Type S variant), so we may see a brand-new version emerge before too long.
