Today, Chevrolet announced the EPA economy rating for the 2014 Corvette Stingray. The EPA verdict is: 17 MPG City and 29 MPG Highway. This rating is for the all new 2014 Corvette with the 7-speed manual gearbox. EPA’s 29 MPG is an average between the 28 in default “Tour” mode and 30 MPG in driver-selectable “Eco” mode. The Eco mode deactivates four of the eight cylinders for light duty highway cruising. Why not leave it in Eco for the highway all the time?
This is highly impressive and also best economy rating of any performance sports car. Chevrolet points out that there are no other car in the world which produces 455 or more horsepower and has 29 MPG or better highway rating. We have to agree with this claim.
Interestingly, Chevy compared the Stingray rating with the following sports cars:
HP | Hwy MPG | |
2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray | 455 | 29 |
2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S | 400 | 27 |
2014 Jaguar F-Type S | 495 | 23 |
2014 Audi R8 V10 | 510 | 19 |
2014 Porsche Cayman | 275 | 30 |
2014 BMW Z4 sDrive28 | 240 | 34 |
