One in three new F-150 pick-ups sold with new turbocharged V6 engine

Who would have thought that the average Ford pick-up truck buyer would opt for a turbo charged V6 instead of the more traditional eight cylinder engine.

BTW: We recently had a chance to take the EcoBoost engined F-150 for a short spin, and came away impressed by the pick-up brisk acceleration. Check out our first drive video below.

With gas prices on the rise, Ford says that demand for the new EcoBoost turbocharged V6 engine has risen also every month since the company introduced this newest F-150 version of the country’s most popular pick-up.

In fact, in April sales of the turbo V6 accounted for 35 percent of the entire F-150 range.

Why?

Perhaps because the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine pumps out 365 horsepower with 420 lb-ft of torque and gets a respectable (for a full-sized pick-up)  EPA mileage rating of 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.

And we suspect that just as importantly for new pick-up buyers the turbo-charged F-150 can tow up to 11,300 lbs.
