Fact: all Hummer H2 owners have inadequacy issues.
Fact: no motor-homes exist based on H1, H2 or H3 architecture
Fact: The Daimler Zetros is one of the few military-grade motor-homes and can easily CRUSH a Hummer.
Sorry, but those are the facts.
Look, it’s not my fault. Blame Daimler for building this beast that puts out about 1,000 lbs of torque – from SIX wheels! This truck is a beast! Better yet – it’s a luxurious beast inside with high end amenities and room for six.
The rooms are individually climate controlled with 40 to 46-inch flat-screen televisions. How cool is that? For hunting types, a large gun-safe is internally mounted and I’m willing to bet it would be a breeze to set up a 50.cal machinegun mount on the roof. I’m just saying….
“All variants of the Zetros are powered by the OM 926 LA 7.2-litre 6-cylinder in-line engine developing an output of 240 kW (326 hp) and an impressive maximum torque of 1300 Nm from 1200 to 1600 rpm. A choice of two transmissions is available: the standard unit is the hydraulically/pneumatically shifted G 131-9 nine-speed transmission (eight forward gears + crawler) with a direct-ratio top gear, with a six-speed Allison 3000 SP/PR fully-automatic transmission available as an option. The VG 1700 transfer case for the permanent all-wheel drive has proved its worth for decades. At 1.690 the off-road ratio is a good 20 percent lower than in the Actros and Axor all-wheel drive models (which have an off-road ratio of 1.403). This makes extremely slow speeds possible, an important attribute e.g. on very steep downhill stretches. Pulling power is increased by around 70 percent compared to the on-road gears. Torque distribution between the front and rear axle(s) is 1:3.21 in the splitter box, and 1:1 if the differential lock is engaged.” – Daimler
Impressive stuff. These two units are being delivered to two businessmen friends in Mongolia for hunting excursions. They can withstand just about any climate, terrain and location. All this while having things like a marble bathroom with heated floors self-aligning SAT dish, an MP3 player, a DVD/CD player, a Bose hi-fi sound system and a Mac Mini plus W-LAN router.
The internal power comes from a high end generator OR solar panels.
The point here is that the Daimler folks know how to build a rig. Want more proof? Have a gander at the Unimog – perhaps one of the best multipurpose trucks ever built. Now THAT’S a truck. I want one to take to Moab, UT and embarrass Hummer (and Jeep, and International, and Toyota, and Nissan, and Chevy, and Ford and – – – you get the point) owners.
On our TFLcar recommendation scale of:
– Buy it
– Lease it
– Rent it or
– Forget it
I’m giving it a…
Buy it!
If you can – which you can’t.
Hell – if ANYONE can.
