Bigger, badder and probably thirstier: Ford unleashes F-150 Raptor SuperCrew

One day we’ll probably look back on this decade as the high water mark for big powerful and thirsty cars and trucks.

And sitting as the king of the powerful trucks will have to be the 2011 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCrew.

This monster truck just got bigger and faster as Ford announced that it will now come standard with the company’s 6.2-liter V8 engine pumping out 411 horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque.

Plus you’ll be able to get the F-150 Raptor in a SuperCrew cab version for all of your family hauling needs and in a new color (Ingot Silver Metallic pictured above). If that’s not enough, you’ll also get an upgraded technology package on the newest Raptor.

According to Ford the new technology package has new off road menu options:

“The screen includes a unique welcome animation and offers menu options giving the customer important information related to off-road and towing performance. A truck application screen provides vehicle status information for important off-road parameters such as off-road mode, Hill Descent Control, electronic locking differential settings and AdvanceTrac® with RSC (Roll Stability Control).”

“The productivity screen is a great solution for our off-road customers,” says Jamal Hameedi, SVT chief nameplate engineer. “With one glance, they can tell exactly what settings are enabled on their truck and what the driveline is doing.”

But while Ford is extolling the off road virtues of the newest Raptor it has not yet announced the fuel economy numbers.

Keep in mind that the Raptor is at least 7 inches wider, and a foot longer than the standard F-150, plus that it can tow up to 8,000 pounds, and of course Ford says that’s it is the biggest and meanest pick-up you can buy.ra

With a 36-gallon fuel tank it may also be the thirsties pick-up you can buy, but all of that Baja tested performace doesn’t come cheap. You got to pay, at least at the pump, if you want to play with this big boy.
