How far can you push the 2016 Hyundai Tucson in order to turn it into an everywhere going off-road machine? Rockstar Performance Garage finds out by building this SEMA Tucson concept. This compact crossover sits six inches higher than stock. It’s a combination of a custom suspension lift and the beefy Mickey Thompson MTZ P3 tires. Adjustable 2.5-inch diameter King shocks help soak up the terrain at all corners.
The 1.6-liter turbocharged four cylinder breaths better with K&N intake and Mishimoto intercooler and turbo piping. A customized Magnaflow exhaust system is tucked away in the middle and provides a healthy four-cylinder growl.
The guys at the Rockstar Performance Garage trimed a lot of the bodywork inside the wheel-wells and at the front/rear bumpers with the goal of maximizing approach/departure/breakover angles and getting the room for the massive tires to turn and articulate. There is enough clearance for the front wheels to turn, but there is little rebound clearance for the rear tires. Nick Ashby from the performance garage wants to do further suspension component modifications and get new axles that allow for a bigger articulation angle. However, this work is slated for after the SEMA show.
As it sits, the Rockstar SEMA Tucson is one sinister crossover that can tackle many off-road obstacles.
