Relax Z4 fans, the BMW Z4 is one of the best looking BMWs built, and it will go on continuing to be for some time. The changes on this new 2014 BMW Z4 are mild at best. The changes are limited to wheels, modified lights with LED-encrusted lights and headlights that have LED light rings, there are sculpted side indicators too. The interior is updated and all of the new bits are wrapped in new color choices.
The big news for the rest of the world is a new four-banger.
The 2014 BMW Z4 sDrive 1.8i (which is not coming to the U.S.) has a 154 horsepower 2-liter that makes 177 lbs-feet of torque and comes hooked up to a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
It’s an entry level Z4 which will have adequate power at best. On the plus side, this baby will get over 34 mpg.
We get the 2-liter that makes 240 hp along with the 300 and 335 hp 3-liter, six-cylinder engines – thank god.
We will have the same choices in transmissions and word of a Z4M with a twin-turbo V8 may be confirmed, or denied when this 2014 BMW Z4 debuts at the 2013 North American International Auto Show.
It may be a sleek and sophisticated driver’s machine, but, even a neanderthal like me truly appreciated its driver-centric setup. I drove the 2010 Z4 and was truly impressed. It felt like the Mazda MX5’s wealthier cousin – and that’s a compliment. This new model is mostly about trim and goodies which means the winning recipe is the same.
