Review 2010 Nissan Versa: The car Harry Potter drives when his broom is in the shop

Versa2

The 2010 Nissan Versa might actually be a magical car.  I was impressed with many aspects of the Versa, including its spaciousness, flexibility and quality of materials.  When I heard I was getting a Versa, I thought, “Meh.”  But when it showed up in my driveway and took it for a spin, my attitude magically adjusted and I admit the Versa made me change my tune.

What oddities existed in the Versa were few, but noticeable.  The adjustments for the front seats were found on the inside of them, by the emergency brake, rather than on the outside by the door.  Odd.  The transmission was a CVT, which behaved oddly.

Review: The 2011 Ford Mustang is the best Mustang yet…with either engine

2010_ford_mustang_gt_image041

LOS ANGELES—Next to the Model T, which seems to have become too old for even history books, the Ford Mustang has become the best known Ford model since it was snapped up by all age groups right after its mid-1964 introduction.

There’s something to be said for automotive continuity. For example, while Chevrolet dropped its Camaro for eight years after 2002, the Mustang has been continued since its debut.

A media preview of the new Mustang in the Los Angeles area involved everything from mountain driving to drag races with the rival Camaro. It showed the 2011 Mustang to be the best Mustang yet. It reaches showrooms in mid-spring.

Massive Toyota and Lexus recall includes 1.5 million cars worldwide

Lexus_RX_330_SUV,_2006

Just when you thought that Toyota had their recall troubles behind them the company has just issued a new recall of 1.5 million cars worldwide because of possible brake failure problem.

In the United states the recalled Toyota and Lexus models include 740,000 vehicles.

  • 2005-06 Avalon
  • 2004-06 Highlander (non-hybrid)
  • 2004-06 Lexus RX330
  • 2006 Lexus GS300
  • 2006 IS250
  • 2006 IS350

The problem stems from a slow and potentially dangerous brake fluid leak in brake master cylinder.

Review: the 2011 Suzuki Kizashi is a fun-to-drive, sporty sedan, but a name change would do wonders

2011-suzuki-kizashi-sport

Now in its second model year as Suzuki’s most expensive vehicle, the Kizashi is a value-priced sedan trying to find a niche in the crowded mid-sized segment. Its name in Japanese means “something great is coming.”

What’s great about the Kizashi is that Suzuki is offering the vehicle in the near-luxury category with a top-of-the-line price ($25,000) that’s still about $5,000 less than the average price of a new car in the United States.

Suzuki attracted a buzz when the car debuted a year as a cheap (but not cheaply built) alternative to an Audi 4. With a few exterior changes and amended sport packages, the second edition remains the same good value as the 2010 version.

First Drive: The 2011 Ford Explorer gets muddy, dirty, and domesticated

Explorer1

The American SUV is back.

First came the all new redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokee, and now the 2011 Ford Explorer has also been completely redesigned to make it more fuel efficient, comfortable, and much more civilized.

Click HERE to check out a off road video review of 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

But unlike the old Explorer the new 2011 model is now based on a car-like chassis instead of a truck like body on frame design.

So the question that you might be asking is just how off-road worthy is the new Explorer?

Review: the 2011 Chevy Volt is not just for tree huggers and urban greenies

Volt1

Editor’s Note: We are excited and thrilled to welcome veteran automotive writer Dan Jedlicka to the TFLcar review team. Dan has reviewed no fewer than 4000 cars for the Chicago Sun Times and has owned 25 classic cars, including 1950s and 1960s Ferraris and 1950s and 1960s Porsches, a 1965 Corvette, a 1967 Maserati and a 1957 Studebaker supercharged Golden Hawk. Today Dan shares his insight on the soon-to-be-sold Chevy Volt.

ROCHESTER, Michigan–The new compact Chevrolet Volt hatchback sedan is the world’s first mass-produced electric vehicle with extended range. It’s the most radical  General Motors high-volume car since the 1960s Chevy rear-engine Corvair, which was virtually buried  by the then-new conventional Ford Mustang.

The front-wheel-drive Volt is the most mass-produced aerodynamic car Chevrolet has made to get maximum fuel efficiency. One aerodynamic trick is giving the car a phony grille. Air is fed to the engine compartment via an “under-grille” scoop below the bumper. The futuristic aerodynamic 1960s Studebaker Avanti used the same type of air induction.

100 people pay silly premium for Neiman Marcus Christmas Book Chevy Camaro Convertible

Camaro

Call us old school but during these tough economic times it just seems plain silly to pay way over sticker for a new car.

As it happens it only took 3 minutes for 100 people to pay way over sticker for the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book special edition Chevy Camaro Convertible.

Keep in mind that a run of the mill Camaro Convertible will cost about $30,000-$40,000 less than the Neiman Marcus car…when it goes on sale.

GM is reporting that the $75,000 Christmas Book special addition edition Chevy Camaro convertible sold out in three minutes.
