The Toyota RAV4 rode a strong November to take the top spot in compact crossover sales, unseating the dominant Honda CR-V.
The RAV4 had a near 30 percent sales increase over November 2014 and beat the CR-V by over 1,000 units sold. For the year, the Toyota is up almost 16 percent from last year.
The Honda CR-V had a weak month, dropping almost 20 percent from this time last year. It still holds a commanding 30,000 unit lead in yearly sales over the RAV4.
Another strong performer was the Nissan Rogue, taking third place for the month with a nearly 50 percent increase from November 2014. Yearly Rogue sales are up 41.4 percent.
The next big loser this month was the Ford Escape, dropping over 18 percent from November 2014. It’s also the only vehicle on the list to have a yearly sales decrease from last year, albeit a small one at less than one percent.
The only other compact crossover to have a down month from last year is the Subaru Forester, with a 1.6 percent drop from last year. On the whole, though, all competitors are seeing moderate to significant increases from last year, which is no surprise as the class is slowly becoming the most popular type of car in America that isn’t a pickup truck.
The ageing Jeep twins – the Patriot and Compass – keep selling well despite being a step or two behind almost every other car in the class. Volkswagen’s troubles, which have hit their sales numbers this month, seem to have left the Tiguan alone, as it had an 87.7 percent increase over November 2014 and is up 34.5 percent for the year.
