At the recent Chicago Auto Show I had the rare opportunity to do a deep dive into the new and upcoming 2018 Ford Mustang GT.
The new 2018 Ford Mustang GT’s Chief Engineer, Carl Widdman, gave me an up close and personal tour around the new car and showed me everything that has changed for 2018. For many car companies this redesigned new 2018 Ford Mustang GT would be considered a slight mid-cycle refresh but the Ford Mustang is too important to Ford to just mildly update. Instead the new 2018 Ford Mustang GT gets the mid-cycle royal spa treatment with Ford’s new 10-speed automatic being the biggest change to the breed. Also, Ford is dropping the base V6 powerplant which makes the 2.3-liter I4 engine the only other engine available in 2018 besides the GT’s 5.0L V8.
Other significant changes include a more distinctive front overbite that now resembles more of a shark’s nose. Mustang’s performance package now also includes magnetorheological shocks that adjust damping forces when the road gets rough or twisty. The car also has a new engine exhast note thanks to a variable butterfly valve in the exhaust system.
But there are many more changes both on the inside and outside of the new pony car that Ford says will make the 2018 Ford Mustang GT the most responsive and most refined Mustang ever built.
Please take a look at the video below as I get a stem to stern personal walk through of the new 2018 Ford Mustang GT with the guy who is directly responsible for every nut and bolt on the car.
