Subcompact car sales remained relatively the same with the Kia Soul still selling the most out of the pack.
The Soul saw 12,253 sales for August, which is down from 13,157 sales in July or a 6.9 percent decrease, sales figures showed. The Nissan Versa remained in the number two spot with 10,585 sales. However, the Versa also saw a decrease from July’s sales of 11,856 or a 10.7 percent decrease.
The Hyundai Accent remained in the third spot with 8,329 sales for August. However, the Accent saw an increase in sales from July to August of 18.2 percent. In July, Hyundai sold 7,046 of the Accent.
Other compact cars that saw an increase in sales were the MINI Clubman, which sold 1,533 vehicles in August or 42.5 percent more than July’s figures of 1,076; the Mitsubishi Mirage, which sold 1,541 in August or 20.4 percent more than July’s figures of 1,280; the Ford Fiesta, which sold 4,946 vehicles in August or 20.9 percent more than July’s figures of 4,092; and the Fiat 500, which sold 1,243 vehicles in August or 13.3 percent more than July’s figures of 1,097.
Several companies saw double digit decreases in sales from July to August. The Toyota Yaris saw a 44.6 percent decrease in sales with 440 for August compared to 794 in July.
The Fiat 500L saw a 42.3 percent drop with 131 in sales for August compared to July’s 227. The Chevy Spark and the Scion iA also saw double digit decreases with the Spark having 30.5 percent fewer sales for August at 2,938, and the Scion having 16.4 percent at 2,515.
For year to date sales comparing 2015 and 2016 figures, the Fiat 500L had 58 percent fewer sales, the Yaris had 47.7 percent fewer sales, the MINI Cooper 2-door had 45.4 percent fewer sales, the Fiat 500 had 44 percent fewer sales, the Fiesta had 26.2 percent fewer sales, the MINI Cooper 4-door had 22.5 percent fewer sales, the Chevy Sonic had 20.3 percent fewer sales and the Honda Fit had 10.9 percent fewer sales.
