We recently received this email from Brian a fan and a TFL viewer.
I am an avid follower of TFLCar. Love watching Roman and Nathan’s adventures of slicing and dicing different manufacturers’ introductions to the auto market.
I really respect your staff’s insights. I am wondering if I could get an opinion from Roman or someone who worked with him on the new F-Pace First Edition from Jaguar. I have a 2016 Range Rover Sport HST edition. Love the truck but from what I see in the F-Pace it may be a better ride. It has the same engine, and similar features except it is sportier, and has all of the new tech that Range Rover will incorporate into their 2017 models.
Because the Range Rover Sport holds value well, I have the opportunity to trade in my 2016 Range Rover Sport for a 2017 Jaguar F-Pace First Edition which has all the tech on it. Not much if any out of pocket expense as the Range Rover Sport was $81K new and they’ll give me $72K for it which is what the F-Pace goes for (Range Rover Sport is pre tech upgrades but loaded pretty well)
Would the people at TFL think this is a good move having reviewed both cars and knowing the products’ values? A general feedback between these two products is appreciated.
Thanks for any opinions you may be able to offer.
Brian
Hi Brian,
I’ve been lucky enough to drive both cars and take both off-road and if it were my money I’d get the…..
It really depends what you need and want. Think of the Jaguar F-Pace as a tall sports car that’s comfortable and roomy enough for a smallish family. But just like a sports car it is not meant to go off-road. In other words, if you plan on doing anything more dramatic than foul weather driving the only choice is the Range Rover Sport.
If, on the other hand, you don’t want to drive up your local mountain top the Jaguar F-Pace would be my choice. It has a much better engine note. The suspension is more sorted and lively. In my opinion the F-Pace is the best car Jaguar builds today. It also has JLR’s new infotainment system which is head and shoulders better than the old system. Lastly you’ll be the only kid on your block to have one, at least for now.
As you can tell I really like the F-Pace. It ticks all of the right boxes in my book and most importantly it is fun to drive. Plus the first edition is simply beautiful with rich leather, gorgeous wheels and an elegant paint color pallet.
If you have not done so please check out my first drive review below. I think you’ll see why I like the Jag better that the Range Rover Sport, at least as long as you don’t plan on leaving the pavement. If you do want to drive up a local mountain you should get the Range Rover Sport, or better yet, get the F-Pace and a used a Jeep.
Cheers, Roman
