You can once again reserve a Tesla Roadster for the same $50K the EV maker asked from you in 2018.
It’s been a long road leading up to the October 1 reveal of the much-hyped Tesla Roadster. We’re only about a week away, and the automaker is now reopening the reservation list for folks who want to put their name in for the company’s halo EV. Just like with the initial reveal, you’ll need to have some deep pockets to get your name on the list. While reservations are technically open on Tesla’s website right now, expect to pay $50,000 for the privilege.
Here’s how it works. Once you pull the trigger (or click the button, in this case), Tesla will ask you to shell out $5,000 immediately. You will have to arrange the remaining $45,000 balance, on the other hand, within 10 days via wire transfer. Reservations are not final, the company says, until it gets the full $50K sorted out.
If you’re thinking we’ve been here before, you’re right on the money — no pun intended. It’s a similar playbook to how Tesla handled a Roadster debut back in 2018, and you probably noticed that car hasn’t actually materialized over the past near-decade. Back then, we were discussing whether Tesla will launch a car with sub-2-second 0-60 acceleration, a 250 mph or more top speed and more than 600 miles of range. Oh, and don’t forget the rocket thrusters that could make it even faster…or fly, for that matter.
Long story short: We’ve seen so many boisterous claims of what the Tesla Roadster will be, and the automaker is once again bringing eyeballs to its big debut on October 1. Given we’re only a week away, it’s unlikely that Tesla will pivot and we’ll see an actual car this time. As to how much it will cost or when it will arrive…well, with the existing track record, that will be harder to pin down. Regardless, we and so many other outlets will cover whatever happens.
