Mazda has announced pricing for its all-new CX-9 crossover SUV. Buyers looking for an entry-level Sport will have to bring $32,420 to the table. For those who want all the bells and whistles can opt for the premium Signature trim level, which rings in at $44,915, and includes standard AWD. Lesser CX-9 models come standard as FWD vehicles, with AWD being an $1800 option. Below is a run down of all the models and their respective features. All prices include $900 for destination.
CX-9 Sport – $32,420
Standard features on the Sport include LED headlights and taillights, cloth seating, an electronic parking brake, 18-inch wheels, a rear backup camera, trailer stability assist, and a 7-inch display with infotainment system. Buyers can add a Sport Package to their CX-9 Sport (yup, you read that correctly), which adds heated front seats, heated door mirrors, and a power driver’s seat. It’s an odd name considering the items, but the Sport package is $995.
CX-9 Touring – $36,870
The Touring trim level adds blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, integrated garage door openers, leather seating, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, keyless entry, power front seats, a power liftgate, and an 8-inch touchscreen display. The optional Touring Premium Package ($1,745) stacks on a sunroof, automatic headlights, LED fog lamps, navigation, a 12-speaker BOSE audio system, automatic wipers, rear backup sensors, second-row sunshades, satellite radio, and Mazda’s automatic Smart City Brake Support.
CX-9 Grand Touring – $41,070
On top of the features in the Sport and Touring, the Grand Touring gets 20-inch wheels, Mazda’s adaptive front-lighting system, aluminum interior trim, a head-up display, high-beam control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control with automatic braking, roof rails, and memory settings for the driver’s seat.
CX-9 Signature – $44,915
The top-of-the-mark Signature model adds standard AWD, Nappa leather interior, rosewood interior pieces, an LED signature accent grille, and LED accent lighting around the shifter.
All CX-9 models come with a new 2.5L turbo-4 which puts out 250 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque as low as 2,000 rpm. The sole transmission is a 6-speed automatic. The EPA rates the new CX-9 at 22/28/25 mpg city/highway/combined when in FWD configuration. We’d expect a one- to two-mpg penalty for AWD. Look for the CX-9 to go on sale in the U.S. in late-spring of 2016.
