These scantily camouflaged 2015 BMW X6 prototypes were caught high altitude testing in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. The black and white swirl camo wrap on these crossovers is quiet revealing. Front and rear facia designs details come through, as do the lines of the door and rear hatch (see gallery below).
The next generation X6 will still offer the xDrive35i and xDrive50i variants. The turbo straight-six will likely carry on with 300 hp, while the turbo V8 in the 50i will see a power bump to an impressive 445 hp. It’s not clear whether the new X6 will offer an alternative power-train such as a diesel or ActiveHybrid system. Another possibility is a rear-wheel drive only version of the X6, mirroring what the 2014 X5 has already done. A two wheel drive model goes against the “X” philosophy, but in the end – it makes for a lighter weight, more nimble, and fun driving experience. Whatta heck – BMW should just do it.
The wild X6M version is sure to return to the lineup after the X6 goes on sale this summer.
These X6 prototypes’ exterior design elements such as the headlights and front facia are nearly identical to those of the redesigned 2014 BMW X5. Check out this fun and informative TFLcar X5 video from Vancouver:
