You may remember the blue Volkswagen Super Beetle concept from the 2012 SEMA show, which was done by VWVortex. That car had about 500 horsepower and all wheel drive. Here we have a 2014 VW GRC Beetle race car, an entry into the 2014 Red Bull Global Rallycross series.
This colorful and low slung Beetle is a beast, featuring “over 560 horsepower” from a turbocharged TSI engine. It sends this power to all four wheel, as it is appropriate for a Rallycross racer. Volkswagen teamed up with Andretti Autosport to launch the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team. The team will participate in the 2014 GRC season, although the Beetle’s debut will come at the Summer X games in Austin, TX.
There will be two GRC Beetles participating. The Rockstar Energy Drink car you see here will be piloted by Tanner Foust. The other – is Scott Speed’s 7 UP livery racer. You likely know Tanner and Scott. These guys have impressive resumes that include GRC championships for Tanner. Scott is an experienced Formula 1 and NASCAR driver.
