Volkswagen Touts 2 Years Free Scheduled Maintenance And The Big ’80s In Its Latest Ad

2014 Volkswagen Touareg

Volkswagen is now promoting two years/24,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance on all its 2014 vehicles with a hilarious ’80s inspired ad. It’ll take you back to the days of big hair, music videos, and farfegnugen.

They’re calling the new program Carefree Maintenance and it is included on every new 2014 Volkswagen that drives off the lot. You’ll get two years or 24,000 miles of oil and filter changes, tire rotations, dust and pollen filter replacements and inspections.

You will also be able to take advantage of the Volkswagen Double Check. This means that anytime within the first 30 days that you own your vehicle, you can bring it in for a free check-up and to ask any questions you may have about your new car. So, when you need help figuring out the navigation or Bluetooth or pretty much anything, Volkswagen can help it all make sense.

There are two scheduled maintenance checks within that two year/24,000 mile period with one at 10,000 miles and the other at 20,000. These will include things like checking your wiper blades and washer fluid levels, inspecting your brakes, and checking the treads on your tires.

How do they promote this program? With a television commercial that draws on the iconic A-Ha “Take On Me” music video from back in the ’80s. It’s got the sketchy drawing of a guy being chased by baddies on motorcycles, but this time he’s driving a Volkswagen.

As the music plays and the singer croons, cut to a regular guy sitting in a conference room doodling Volkswagen logos and cars all over his meeting notes. And singing. He’s just so darn happy about this Carefree Maintenance program that he can’t help but break out in song.

Check out the video below, but be warned. This is one of those songs that sticks in your head so, just like the guy in the commercial, you’re likely to be humming this for awhile.

And check out our review of the 2014 Volkswagen Touareg TDI but don’t worry, neither Roman nor Nathan sings in this one.
