See the BMW i3 Concept and BMW i8 Concept at the Auto Shanghai 2013!

That’s right folks, The Fast Lane Car (TFLCar) will be at the Auto Shanghai 2013 to see the BMW i3 Concept and BMW i8 Concept among many other vehicles. I’m excited as I’m the one who’s going to cover it. TFLCar has been all over the world for various press events and auto shows, but this is our first foray into Asia. The cool part is: the BMW i3 Concept and BMW i8 Concept are tantalizingly close to what the production versions will look like.

“The i3 Coupe Concept uses a 170 hp electric motor to power the rear wheels.  The lithium ion battery back is placed low in the floor for best weight distribution. The i8 Roadster Concept pushes the electric fun factor to the maximum. The i8 uses BMW eDrive system that combines a turbocharged combustion engine with an electric motor and battery for a combined 354 hp.” – – That quote comes off our 2012 LA Auto Show: BMW remains committed to Electric Future with BMW i3 and i8 post you can read (here).

Both of these vehicles will go into production. China has huge potential for electric and hybrid vehicles given their pollution, gas thirst and massive automotive expansion. It’s no wonder why the Chinese media is all over the BMW i3 Concept and BMW i8 Concept.

“Just a few months before the market launch of its first series-produced model, the new, sustainable mobility-oriented brand BMW i gives the Auto Shanghai 2013 audience a comprehensive preview of its future product range, design language and vehicle technology with two concept cars.

The BMW i3 Concept with a pure electric drive system and the BMW i8 Concept plug-in hybrid sports car study offer their own unique versions of BMW eDrive powertrain technology to deliver undiluted driving pleasure. In addition, BMW i uses a selection of other innovations to show how intelligent energy management and extensive connectivity can optimise the cars’ electric driving range to suit customers’ individual mobility requirements.” – – BMW Media

I have rarely been disappointed with the way a BMW drives. They are and have been known as a driver’s car from the smallest to largest sedan. The world awaits a true, driver-oriented hybrid. I await an electric car that can match the gas/diesel equivalent’s ability. Perhaps the BMW i3 Concept and BMW i8 Concept show the way to an exciting future.

Here’s a fun video with a BMW X1!

Did I mention that I think the BMW i3 Concept and BMW i8 Concept look real cool? What say all of you?
