The 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel light-duty diesel is coming

2013 Ram 1500
The 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel light-duty diesel is coming!

Ram will offer a light-duty diesel in the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. Details are thin as they are finalizing numbers, but this is what I do know. It will have a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel similar to the one that will be offered in the Jeep Grand Cherokee – which makes 240 horsepower and 420 lbs-feet of torque. It will be offered with an eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission.

No other light duty pickup truck currently sold in North America is offered with a diesel.

Ram has given no details as to pricing, 4×4 options or sales dates.

Here’s the few straws I’m clinging to (until Ram gives me more information):

The base price should be within a stone’s throw of the $22,640 Ram lists the base-model Ram 1500 at.

The 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel may make over 420 lbs feet of torque – which would kill all V6s (the Ford EcoBoost V6 makes 420 lb-ft of torque) and many V8s in the same class.

Expect around 25 mpg highway.

Towing should be well over 6,700 lbs – which would reclaim the V6 towing title from Ford.

Fred Diaz, President and CEO — Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de Mexico, Chrysler Group LLC says, “The Ram 1500 with 3.0-liter V-6 turbo EcoDiesel and TorqueFlite eight-speed transmission deliver on the demands of truckers by providing best-in-class torque, fuel economy and range. There’s no doubt that being the only truck manufacturer to offer this game changing technology will provide Ram with a competitive advantage.”

I have a feeling we’ll see this same diesel in many more Chrysler Group LLC products.

I’ll update the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel story with real numbers the moment Mr. Diaz and the rest of Chrysler throw me a bone.

I hope they make a 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Power Wagon!
