Two-time Academy Award actor Gene Hackman was struck by a car while biking in Islamorada, Florida, according to the Florida State Highway Patrol.
The 81-year-old Hollywood movie star was not wearing a helment when he was hit from behind by a Toyota Tundra pickup in the Florida Keys.
According to CNN.com Hackman was transported via life-flight to the Ryder Trauma Center in Miami where he was examined and released.
His agent characterized his injuries as minor bumps and bruises.
Police say that alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
Hackman won an Academy Award for “The French Connection” in 1971. He also won a second Oscar for “Unforgiven” in 1992. He received Oscar nominations for three other films as well.
Florida has been in the news recently for a series of deadly bike accidents including THIS one that killed professional Sara McLarty’s father (Brent McLarty) last year.
